We're proudly South African

Braaing may not be a national sport, but it sure is one the best ways to celebrate our heritage. And team of scientists – from South Africa and America – have confirmed that fire was first used on the African continent!

Lets make our way to the Cradle of Humankind, one of the most important sites to help scientists understand human development. It’s here where some of the oldest signs of the controlled use of fire in the whole world.  That is, the origin of the braai. Read more about the discovery here.

There can be no doubt that the art of braaing was invented on South African soil. By some ancient Gautengers nogals.

We have reason to believe that whoever first used controlled fire probably was hungry, and from a growling tummy came a discovery that became a part of our heritage.

Don’t fight it, it’s science. Celebrate it this weekend by throwing a chop and sausage on the coals.
