The wheelchair of the future

According to an article on, the problem with current wheelchairs is that they’re not versatile enough for developing countries’ unpaved roads, steep hillsides and generally wheelchair-unfriendly buildings.

Enter the leveraged freedom chair (LFC), a more powerful wheelchair that’s controlled by levers and moves like a mountain bike.

The LFC is made entirely from bike parts and works similarly to a mountain bike.

The wheelchair uses a lever system to manoeuvre with different grips. A high grip gives more torque, a low grip increases angular velocity, much like changing gears on a bike.

Do you think this new design in an improvement from the current one?
