HIP2B˛ - October 2007

Hallo Hipsters

I have a sneaky suspicion we slipped down a wormhole in early January. It’s the only plausible explanation for the mysterious disappearance of 279 days in 2007! We’re nearing the “yank-off your school uniforms, put away the text books and enjoy curling your toes under sun-baked sea sand whilst devouring a soft serve” period. Or maybe you're more into picnics in the shade with friends? Only one and a half month to go and boy, do we have oodles of fun in store for you. Let’s take a peek….

Hipper than ever. Innovation squared.

Hard to miss, isn’t it! The new website with its snappy content and funky new design has landed. We’ve spent hours in our laboratory brewing up a site that we know will send little rainbow-coloured, fizzle-popping explosions through your brain.

Did you know that the “real deal” Spider man suit will be in store soon? Yes, you will be able to scuttle up office buildings and hone your web slinging skills in the not too far away future.

Never fear! Teenage Mutant Spider-Goats are near. Read about the genetically engineered super heroes of the future, able to produce spider silk – the strongest fibre on earth.

Have we tickled your curiosity taste buds? Visit www.hip2b2.com for more “Wow!”, “Gee Whiz!’ and “No Way!” exclamations.

Calling all Mike Teavee’s!

The TV show has a brilliant line-up for all you square-eyed hipsters.

I hope you've recovered from motion sickness after watching last week's episode on breakdancing and Jui-Jitso. We'll convert the motion sickness into amazement today by focussing on matters of the heart, the power engine that drives you every day. On the 22nd we go behind the screens (literally!) and examine the workings of a TV. The end of the month is a call for green-tinged action.

Pheeew! What a line-up...be sure to tune in to the smartest show on TV on Mondays at 16h30, SABC 2.

Einstein’s favourite read

Archimedes read it while reclining in the bath. Newton read it just before the apple fell from the tree. Einstein read it before his daily catnap. Yip - you guessed it: The latest issue of the magazine has arrived. We meet SA’s youngest rocket scientist, explore why we are the best sportsmen on earth (just look at the rugby!) and expose how reading makes you rich.

Now you see it, now you don’t. Whilst some magical tricks are cool – others like disappearing mags before you can get your hands on them, aren’t. To avoid this uncool situation, subscribe to the mag. Email jpienaar@newmediapub.co.za or phone him on 021 417 1218, and he’ll organise it for you.

OK – that’s it from me for now. Remember to email any suggestions, visions or dreams to talk2us@hip2b2.com. I need to go stretch my legs and have a quick climb up the 23 story building next door with my new spider gloves and boots.

Ciao for now!

Can we all become X-Men?

So which X-men character would you like to be? Do you want to shoot lasers like Cyclops, be a shape-shifter like Mystique or manipulate electromagnetic fields ala Magneto?

Floating frogs (no, we didn’t just send them into space!)

I know what you’re thinking, why frogs? Why make them fly – they seem to be busy enough already with metamorphosis and all.

The Reality of Science fiction: Levitate like Magneto

Now you can join the ranks of the X-men, seeing they’ll welcome someone who can tally Magneto’s powers of manipulating electromagnetic fields.
