"All you have to do is write a short blog about yourself, about anything." That’s what our digital manager casually instructed me to do.
It got me wondering as to why, exactly, people write blogs? And what makes anyone want to read about someone they’ve never met – and might not ever? Could it be our curiosity, or boredom? Or could it be something deeper: the inherent desire we all have to connect with people, to find the sameness amidst the clutter of diversity?
Sjoe, this is getting way too philosophical for such a hip site. But then again, we salute smartness, so it’s obvious that moments of cleverness will sneak through.
So what’s the smartest thing you’ve done this week? For me, it was waking up and realising how much there is to be thankful for. Sure, you might not feel that way when you’re writing an exam on a subject you just don’t get, or when you’ve been grounded, or don’t have enough pocket money to buy what you really want … but the fact that you can go through any of these things means you’re alive, and that is enough to be thankful for.
What else am I thankful for? Chocolate brownies, hot water bottles, friends who teach me how to crack PS games, my parents, my brother (he taught me how to play “boy” sports), anyone who does nice things just because, oh, and those extra five minutes’ sleep in the morning.
Make your own I’m-thankful-for list. And blog it.
