We’re not kidding – this happened. In 1954 a Soviet surgeon Vladimir Demikhov unveiled a surgically created monstrosity – a two-headed dog.

The dog(s) were created by grafting the head, shoulders and front legs of a puppy onto the neck of a mature German shepherd – and it actually worked!
At the unveiling, journalists marveled as the two heads simultaneously lapped at a bowl of milk and then cringed as the milk from the puppy’s head dribbled out of the disconnected stump of its esophageal tube. Don’t fret for him, though. He got all the nourishment he needed from the circulatory system of the older dog.
Demikhov's two-headed dog lived for only six days, but over the course of the next 15 years he constructed 19 more.
