10. Programming: I really enjoy the programming part of our IT lessons and it’s a period of my day that I really look forward to. I love being in front of a computer irrespective of what I may be expected to do while using it.

9. The clubs! We do some really awesome, fun and good things in our clubs. For example, last year when TADA went out onto the road outside our school and handed out drug awareness flyers and timetables, we had so much fun! Most of the people driving past were our friends and their parents and it was quite amusing. And our Hindu Students Association also has a lot of fun especially when we are rehearsing for satsanghs (services) and other festivals. There’s singing and music and lost of laughter.

8. Mathematics: sorry guys but I really DO enjoy my Maths lessons. It’s that confident feeling you get when you get things right and when you enjoy the lesson. It’s the most relaxing period in my school day because I can comfortably do all my work without worrying about not understanding or ending up with heaps of homework. Also some of the stuff we learn is really fascinating and I just can’t help but love it.

7. Sports Day: in our school, classes are very competitive when it comes to which class has the best t-shirts, the best banner and the best mascots. The atmosphere around Sports Day is amazing and it’s great to see the way diverse learners pull together as a class. It’s very competitive and one of the highlights is our Tug-O-War day when classes battle it out over the rope!

6. Casual Days! Well, you get to wear civvies and have a day full of fun! You’ve gotta love that!

5. The soccer rivalry amongst learners and teachers alike. It’s really cool to be in a school like ESS where nearly everyone is soccer-crazy. The eternal feud between Manchester United (who were recently advised to change their name to Ugly United after 7 of their players featured in the top 20 Ugly Players poll) and Liverpool FC (the most amazing, talented and loyal club in European football) really comes to life in our school. And even the teachers participate in the tormenting and teasing of the soccer teams with Mrs Somaru being the leader in the Man U camp and Mr K. Moodley heading up the Liverpool team! It’s quite exciting and a lot of good clean fun.

4. My class and my friends: My classmates and friends make school worth going to! My class, grade 11A, share a very close relationship with each other and we are very united. We always stand up for each other and it’s a case of “mess with one, mess with ‘em all”. We have a lot of fun but we also help each other with school work and motivate each other to do our best. It’s nice to have that kind of thing at school because it helps you keep the balance between work and play.

3. The fact that it means you’re closer to finishing school!!! I mean, being in grade 11 means only one more year before you finish school and you wouldn’t be able to say that if you weren’t in high school!

2. My family: or at least 4/5 of it! My brother, sister, mother and I all go to ESS and though many people think that this must be torturous – it’s not. It’s really cool that we all are together. Amongst us kids, we share a lot of friends and funny moments and honestly sharing stories wouldn’t be as enjoyable if we were all in different schools. Also my mum gets along well, with all my friends and when I need something from the tuck-shop, she’s always there to hand over the bucks – ha-ha! Seriously though, my family share a very close bond and we all get along brilliantly so having them at school with me is definitely one of the best things about high school. The only reason they’re not number one, is because they aren’t limited to high school: I have them with me all the time!

1. My three best friends: Anashya Soobhar, Raeesa Sheik and Christopher Moodley. Without these three people there with me everyday, school would be absolutely dreadful! They are always around to liven things up and each of them has this insane ability to transform the most boring of lessons in to ones of excitement, amusement and fun! Raeesa is totally crazy and funky and often the two of us decide to put on accents or speak in different languages, leaving all of our friends confused and amused. Chris loves to second-guess whatever the teacher is going to do next and has an uncanny ability to guess correctly. He also enjoys making amusing comments to me in response to what other people may be saying and as a result people tend to think that I am rude and that I am laughing at them! And Anashya...well, let’s just say Annie’s a born entertainer! From singing, to dancing, to impersonations and stand-up comedy Anashya’s just brilliant. After all, she is my best friend, ha-ha! Guys, you rock!

Ciao 4 now! Mwah!

NB: This blog was extremely difficult to write. It required extensive brainstorming over an extended period of time. Some of the above may be slightly exaggerated (only slightly) in that I may not actually find it as interesting as it sounds, but as they say: Ask no questions and you’ll hear no lies! :-)  :-)  :-)
