At the age of 7, Akrit Jaswal performed his first surgery – separating a young girl’s fingers which were badly burned and fused together. He did this without ever having set foot in medical school.
How is this possible? Well, it probably helps that Akrit has an IQ of 146 and is considered the smartest boy in India. At the age of two, he already knew the alphabet and how to write. Age 5, he read Shakespeare.
Science and anatomy was his passion from an early age, choosing medical textbooks above reading Harry Potter’s. Doctors at local hospitals took notice and started allowing him to observe surgeries when he was only 6 years old. An impoverished family heard about his amazing abilities and asked if he would operate on their daughter for free. Her surgery was a success.
So what’s left to tick on the “Amazing list”? What about enrolment at Punjab University age 11? That same year, he was also invited to London's famed Imperial College to exchange ideas with scientists on the future of medical research.
Akrit is currently working on a cure for cancer, whilst studying zoology, botany and chemistry.
