A second Big Bang is scheduled for this Wednesday! This R66 billion science experiment is underway 1 kilometre below the Alpine foothills.

Large Hadron Collider

The Large Hadron Collider is a new particle accelerator designed to unlock the secrets of how the universe started. Able to generate temperatures of more than a trillion degrees centigrade, scientist will use it to recreate the conditions that existed just a fraction of a second after the birth of the universe. They will then send protons smashing into each that have been accelerated to energies of 7 trillion electron volts and examine the remains for clues to the origin of mass, new forces and particles in the universe.

Some fear this experiment could potentially destroy the planet by creating a black hole (gulp!)...
