Humans have always dreamt of having a household robot to do the dishes. This dream is nearing reality…Enter Asimo - the humanoid robot that surpasses all who came before by a long run!

Developed by Honda Motor Company it looks like a small astronaut wearing a backpack and can walk on two feet at speeds up to 6km/h. The name is an acronym for "Advanced Step in Innovative MObility".

The list of actions Asimo is capable of is mind-boggling! He can recognize moving objects, follow movement, greet people, recognize and respond to 50 different Japanese phrases, come when beckoned and walk up and down stairs.

He performs these tasks by assessing the surroundings using visual sensors, a floor surface sensor, an ultrasonic sensor and a telecommunication card, which enables it to interact with a visitor who is also holding a card.
