Hello there!

I am quite an honest person in general so therefore I will be completely honest with you: I can’t say right now that I have experienced any life changing books or authors. I suppose there are some that have made me think a little after reading them, but I wouldn’t say they were enough to make me change the way I think and do things in life.
This is unless you count the story of the “Greedy Guzzler”, one of those books that have huge colourful pictures on each page and a maximum of 6 words underneath them. Anyway, my sisters and I read that story in pre-primary and ever since then, to this very day, anyone in the family who is caught having too much to eat or anyone who refuses to share their food is christened the “Greedy Guzzler” for the day. I suppose that could be classified as life changing, to some extent.

Even though I may not have a life changing book, I most certainly have my favourite one. I just lurvvvvvvvv the Harry Potter series. I commend J. K. Rowling for her exquisite attention to detail and the consistency and flow of her entire story through all seven of the books. I enjoy the way we readers are with Harry and his friends every step of the way, from little eleven year olds just learning how to wave a wand correctly, to big (for lack of a better description) 17 year-old teenagers, taking on the world.

I mainly enjoy books filled with fantasy and things that generally would never ever occur in reality. I also quite like books with unexpected but pleasant endings and interesting twists. I especially dig books that have continuations like the trilogies. My favourite stories that span over more than one book are:

  • His Dark Materials Trilogy which consists of Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Looking Glass
  • Looking Glass Wars Trilogy with the first two books out already and the third pending.
  • Lord of the Rings Trilogy
  • Spud and Spud – The Madness Continues and
  • The Inkheart Trilogy which consists of Inkheart, Inkspell and Inkdeath which is still due to be released.

Reading is fun and exciting, offering you a chance to escape the troubles of this world into the adventures of someone else in another, even if it is only for a moment. However reading is not only for pleasure but is also important for understanding the questions you are being asked in tests or exams and for understanding what is going on in the world around you.

Therefore, keep reading and loving every moment of it because after all, as Richard Steele an Irish-born English essayist, playwright, and politician said, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.”
