If Pyro is your favourite X-Men character, chances are you’ve probably burned down a few household objects by mistake. Then why don’t you hone your fire skills for the forces of good? By becoming a pyrotechnician.
Pyrotechnicians are experts in creating special effects using fire and smoke. They usually work with production companies to create safe and convincing effects in movies, TV, theatre, concerts and sporting events. Even though it sounds like the ideal job it’s important to remember that the job involves more organising than the actual action of firing-off effects.
To become one you need an artistic eye, creativity and a vast knowledge of the equipment. You must also be detail-orientated and very meticulous seeing you need to establish safe environments.
There are no training or degree programs strictly in pyrotechnics. Experience is the best way to learn but degrees in art, music, physics and chemistry could be helpful. Private companies occasionally offer seminars and classes.
