As you get older, your eyesight and hearing may go, you may smell things foul and sooo disgusting (school toilets – double eeuw!), you may have to try out your best friend’s recipes that aren’t so yummy (even though my friend makes killer cupcakes for me), but the one sense that is always comforting is touch. I have had so many days when I have been in the gutter and felt so sad, but a kind pat on the back or a hug from a loved one has put a smile on my face. We as humans are fortunate enough to have so many nerves on the surface of our bodies that enable us to feel the warmth and care of those around us. When babies are welcomed into the world, the first thing they want to do is grasp the things closest to them and explore the world we live in through touch. I know that nothing beats the winter blues better than my soft blanket and silky pillow. Studies have shown that the things we feel will more often than not allow us into our comfort zone – the feeling of damp grass under bare feet may bring you back to when you were a little kid running around outside or the softness of a cashmere cardigan may remind you of a grandparent that has passed on. Touch is definitely a nostalgic kind of sense. But the main reason why I love the sense of touch is for one thing only – a foamy bubble bath followed by a foot massage! Pure 100% bliss : - ) .With those pleasant thoughts in my mind I say –bring on winter!
Cheers
Ash
