If I had the divine power of erasing one event from history, it would have been quite a hard task. Luckily, I don’t have the power, but if I did have to choose one, just one event, it would be... (drumroll please)
The big bang
OK, if talked about this topic before, but hey, it’s not everyday you get the power to erase an event (even if just imaginary), so when it does fall in your lap, why not go big? The reasons for my specific choice are as follows:
- If we didn’t have a big bang, we all probably wouldn’t have existed.
- Point 1 would have prevented many problems: high petrol prices, corruption, economic recessions, slave trade, colonization, diplomatic problems, mad dictators, global warming, etc. etc.
- The big bang not happening would also have spared us a few dozen years of research about what actually happened in the big bang.
- Unfortunately, if we didn’t exist, and there were no moons or planets, we probably wouldn’t have been able to build an international space station and travel to it.
- Point 4 would have prevented cool entrepreneurs like Mark Shuttleworth traveling to the ISS and creating a brand like Hip2B2 in the wake of his trip.
- Point 5 would have prevented a great brand like Hip2B2 inspiring young people to study science and technology, which would in turn have prevented the world going forward. Back to square one.
It would have been interesting to find out what really would have happened if we didn’t have a big bang. Would a big bang still have taken place, just at another time? And if so, how would things have turned out?
I’ll leave you with that for this week.
