Hey all

Hope you are well and that you’re settling back into school routine. For my blog this week I want to explain to you all about my invention…

I invented Fundus photography which is a new method to identify a person. Measurements from a photograph of the Fundus were used to identify a person. The Fundus is the back of the eye that consists of the retina, the optic nerve head and the vascular system. A random selection of 1030 people was chosen in order to take measurements from their Fundus photographs. Four distances were measured in each photograph. These distances are stable over time. Two mathematical formulas in ratio form were developed in order to identify numerically the characteristics of the Fundus photograph.
There are a number of benefits to using this method. It eliminates the need to remember a password or carry a token. It can be done on children of any age, therefore photographs can be taken at birth and last an entire lifetime. As the Fundus is an internal characteristic of the eye, it cannot be changed. It’s unnecessary to store the photographs as the measurements can be extracted from a new photograph, thereby giving a Fundus Identification number that can be correlated with the database. It is a very reliable method. Fundus Identification numbers can in the future can replace Identification numbers! Watch out for that!
A computer program was also developed to check that no two numbers are the same. It would run through all the Fundus Identification numbers to ascertain whether there are any matching Fundus Identification numbers. The final mathematical formula resulted from both formulas’ producing different answers for every Fundus photograph.

On the 19th of March I’ll be leaving Cape Town with my invention to represent South Africa at the Beijing Youth Science Creation Competion, held in China.

I was wondering what you know about Alien Vegetation? If you can tell me anything please put it in the comment or e-mails me: abramson@global.co.za

Now I’m going to leave you with the Inspirational message, interesting fact and totally random fact (TRF) of the week:

Inspirational message #3: “Be yourself, who else is better qualified." Unknown
Interesting fact #3: The fastest moving land snail, the common garden snail, has a speed of 0.0313mph. This doesn’t really explain the need for such a fancy helmet!
TRF #3: The world’s oldest piece of chewing gum is over 9000 years old! The desk it's stuck to is thought to be older.

Thanks, have a great week and chat soon
