Flying an airplane is undoubtedly lots of fun. Getting paid to do it - even better.

airline pilot

An airline pilot works in a travelling office with views that surpass any skyscraper. He or she operates a multimillion rand machine that casually lifts off into the air and travels to exotic locations all around the world.

On the more serious side – a captain retains full responsibility for the safety of the aircraft and its occupants and is aided by the first officer and cabin crew. An aircraft is usually operated by two or four pilots, depending on the type of aircraft and the length of the journey.

Before pilots can take to the air, they have to understand the theory of flight, meteorology, aircraft systems, navigation, regulation and air traffic control. It's a very intensive training course.
