Monsterchess: bigger and better

Published on August 26th, 2011

Have you ever watched Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone? Of course you have – don’t even try to deny it!

Anyway, if you’ve seen it, you’ll be familiar with the giant magical chess set.

Steve Hassenplug, a veteran Lego roboticist, watched the movie and he was instantly inspired.

So, he decided to make this magical wonder a reality by building his very own ‘Monsterchess’ set. He created the set from more than 100,000 Lego pieces, which required plenty of wizardry of its own.

All the pieces have their own wheels and the whole set is connected to a touch-screen PC that connects the entire board via Bluetooth and can tell up to seven pieces at a time where to move. Watch the video. It’s great!
