Learners at the KZN regional round

Deep in thought at the North West regional round

Overflowing with enthusiasm in the Western Cape

During National Science Week in August 2011, hundreds of South African schools battled it out in the gruelling regional rounds. A few weeks later, the nine winning teams (one from each province) got narrowed down to just three – Helpmekaar College from Johannesburg, Hoerskool Waterkloof from Pretoria and Hoerskool Douglas from the Northern Cape – in a brain-busting digital round.

The top three teams were flown to Cape Town for the final round on the 24th of September 2011, where the learners went up against each other to be crowned this year’s iTHINK winners. The final round included the use of Apple iPads, courtesy of ThinkAhead, www.thinkahead.co.za.

After a gruelling race, the teams from Hoerskool Waterkloof from Pretoria and Helpmekaar College came in at a tie for first place, with the team from Hoerskool Douglas from the Northern Cape came in at second place.
