Innovation Challenge 2013
Invitation to Grade 10 pure maths and science learners
HIP2B2 3M Innovation Challenge supported by TIA
The primary goal of the Innovation Challenge is to spark an interest and curiosity in Maths, Science and technology-related subjects. By building an excitement around these subjects, we hope to instill a culture of innovation in South Africa and to inspire learners to work towards qualifications (e.g. degrees) in the science, engineering and technical fields.
Your school is invited to this year’s Innovation Challenge! Let’s take your Grade 10 maths and science learners on a journey to their future. HIP2B2, together with 3M and TIA are holding an event to spark the interest of learners in maths and science: Their innovation could win them the title of ‘SA Young Innovator of the Year’.
The HIP2B² 3M TIA Innovation Challenge is supported by the Western Cape Department of Education, KZN Pinetown District Office, the Gauteng Johannesburg Circuit, Cofimvaba Districts Office and the Limpopo Department of Education.
How the HIP2B² 3M Innovation Challenge, supported by TIA, works:
Step 1: The Information Event
This event is open to each and every learner taking pure maths and science. It is a fun-filled afternoon event with activities, team challenges and videos to introduce learners to the world of innovation science and engineering. Learners will be given guidance on how maths and science lay foundations/building blocks for careers in the fields of innovation, technology and even healthcare, safety and transport.
During this event, we will explain in detail how learners can enter the HIP2B² 3M Innovation Challenge, supported by TIA, what the deadlines are, what will be expected of them, and of course the fantastic prizes to be won. Schools taking part will get extra maths, science and innovation reading material. Some of the Information Event exercises can be shared back at school with the other learners in class.
Step 2: Entering the Challenge
During the Information Event, each participant and school will receive information packs on how to enter the Innovation Challenge.
If you’d like to give your Grade 10 learners this wonderful opportunity, please start by completing the attached HIP2B² 3M, supported by TIA, Information+ Event entry form.
