What is HIP2B²?
Life after school can be challenging – that’s why HIP2B² wants to equip school learners with vital life skills, such as analytical thinking, problem-solving, a love of learning and a curious mindset. Launched after Mark Shuttleworth’s pioneering trip into space in 2002, HIP2B² is a unique initiative that aims to spark curiosity in the science and maths and technology related subjects to develop entrepreneurial thinking.
HIP2B² aims to show learners that subjects traditionally seen as “difficult” or “hard” can be loads of fun, while being important to their future success. We connect with learners on various immediate platforms, which are both easily accessible and informative. The HIP2B² website, magazine and online radio are engaging and fun, while the HIP2B² Brand Ambassador Programme, the iTHINK Challenge and roadshows get learners involved, interacting – and thinking.
Magazine
The HIP2B² magazine is a high quality quarterly publication distributed free of charge to 4000 high schools across South Africa – that’s one million learners per year. Each issue explores a theme and encourages learners to delve into the subject themselves. We also have a subscription service so learners can have their magazine delivered to their doorstep at a nominal cost.
Digital
With over 5300 Facebook fans and over 101 000 MXit subscribers, the HIP2B² website,www.hip2b2.com, is a thriving online community where school-going teenagers can interact and broaden their general knowledge of everyday life in a fun and engaging manner. Learners can get inspirational entrepreneurial stories, insight into careers, information for school projects and be entertained by our ‘did you know’ or ‘ever wonder why’ stories.

HIP2B² Online Radio
Launched in July 2011, HIP2B² Online Radio is the first online youth radio station in South Africa. Produced and presented by the youth for the youth, it’s actively turning airwaves into brainwaves on computers and cellphones across the country. Within just four weeks, the station had attracted around 5000 listeners (a listener is defined as someone who tunes in for 30 minutes or more). Listen live here.

HIP2B² Brand Ambassadors are smart, focused – and cool! They are well-rounded learners chosen from diverse backgrounds to inspire their peers and actively engage with them and us.
HIP2B² iTHINK Challenge
Think The Amazing Race meets The Weakest Link…and you have the iTHINK Challenge! This energetic event pits teams from schools all over South Africa in a nail-biting race consisting of tasks, challenges and riddles testing learners’ knowledge and ability in STEM-based activities. Roadshow
Travelling to schools throughout all nine provinces, a theatrical ensemble brings to life the ideas of local and global thinkers, leaders and inspirational role models who have positively influenced the world.
Teacher Champions
Inspired educators in each province mentor our brand ambassadors and play an integral role in helping them grow our regional presence. Key to the success of our brand messages, our teacher champions are passionate about young people, teaching and learning.
