Amazing medical miracles # 1

These medical TV shows can paint quite a pretty (and in some cases, not so pretty) picture of how they miraculously saved a life. And while we’re in awe over these medical marvels, we have to ask if they happen in real life?

Well, they do. Some of the cases sound like it they were taken straight from the script of House or Grey’s Anatomy, but the fact that they’re completely true makes them even more unbelievable.

We’re going to be looking at a couple of these medical miracles. Take for example the teen that lived without a heart for 118 days.

Fourteen-year-old D’Zhana Simmons received a transplant to replace her enlarged heart, but when the new organ failed to function properly, doctors had to remove it.

Without another heart available, and with D’Zhana weakened from the surgery, the doctors came up with a stopgap measure, which consisted of two artificial pumps that kept blood flowing in her body for almost four months.

Finally, 118 days later, D’Zhana received another heart transplant, and it was so successful that she had a kidney transplant the very next day.

For more medical miracles, keep your eyes on for the rest of the week.
